If you plan on using that in some way for fishing it's just not an effective tool for that. I will also caution you in that the gps features only value is in the emergency calling. I was lucky and got many years out of my last.
Icom's offering for radios that have DSC is no longer worth the these vhf ration throw away items you might get a year or two out of. I love that both have the FM radio which standby isn't something I'd normally care about except for entertainment on the water. I am seriously considering the HX890BK at a hundred bucks more for the DSC calling.
I have been around the block with both Standard Horizon and Icom and the timing of this couldn't be more perfect as my trusty Icom M92D that has the DSC calling on it for emergencies I cannot get batteries for any more.īefore that I had the cheaper floating Standard Horizon HX-290 and when the speaker got wet it became garbled even at full volume and that was a safety issue to me.ĭo those that have the newer version the HX-300 how does the speaker sound when it gets wet? Does it get muffled? That's a deal breaker for me.
